Creating Community Through Hosting Bike Movie Nights
Sunday March 15th, 3:00 PM
Seminar room: 109A (Ground Level – 12th & Arch Streets entrance)
Presented by Daymon Long, Alden Roth and Olivia Loy, Filmed by Bike
Across the country, bicycle communities are finding powerful ways to connect people—not just through riding, but through shared stories. Bike films offer a unique opportunity to bring together cyclists, non-cyclists, artists, advocates, and neighbors in a welcoming, low-barrier setting that sparks conversation, belonging, and local engagement.
This seminar explores how community-based bike film screenings can serve as a catalyst for building stronger, more inclusive local communities. Drawing on real-world examples from film showings hosted in towns and cities across the United States, the session examines how storytelling, public gathering, and cycling culture intersect to create meaningful connections between people.
Participants will learn a practical, step-by-step framework for organizing bike film screenings in their own communities—from choosing films and securing venues to outreach, partnerships, and post-screening discussions. The seminar emphasizes accessibility, collaboration, and sustainability, showing how small, grassroots events can grow into recurring cultural touchpoints that strengthen local networks.
By the end of the session, attendees will leave with:
A clear understanding of why bike films are an effective tool for community building
A replicable “how-to” guide for launching a local bike film night
Strategies for engaging diverse audiences and local partners
Ideas for turning one-time events into ongoing community initiatives
Whether you are a cyclist, community organizer, educator, or simply interested in creating meaningful local gatherings, this seminar offers actionable insights and inspiration for using film as a vehicle for connection.

Bicycling utilizes parts of the body in ways that are different from standing, walking, running, or sitting. With today’s gas prices, more and more people are taking up cycling for transportation and commuting. Yoga can help the body, mind, and spirit cope with the stresses and strains imposed by cycling- by increasing concentration and circulation, building endurance and flexibility, and promoting over-all well-being. A Yoga for Cyclists workshop focuses on those areas of the body specific to cycling. You don’t have to be an experienced yogi or yogini to participate- beginners welcome!
Jenna Lam began my yoga journey as a practice of self-regulation and community care, and over time, it evolved into a deep study of embodied awareness and service. She completed my 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training at Monarch Yoga Studio from June to August 2025, where I trained in vinyasa, restorative, and trauma-informed approaches. My background blends wellness, social impact, and education. She brings to the mat the same curiosity and compassion that guide her community organizing and storytelling work.
In her class, expect movement, grounding breath, and self-compassion. She hopes students leave feeling more at ease in their bodies and connected to their inner steadiness.

Saturday March 14th, 1:30 PM
Demo Area – Booth #333 (in the exhibit hall near the food court)
Presented by Beth Permenter, Phoenix Bikes Youth Program Manager, and Teen Mechanics from the Youth Program
Getting a flat tire is a rite of passage for every cyclist, but it doesn’t have to mean calling a cab or walking your bike home. Knowing how to confidently remove a tire, replace a tube, and get back on the road is the single most empowering skill a rider can learn. Led by Youth Program Director Beth Permenter and the talented teen mechanics from our program, this workshop demystifies the flat-fixing process. We will guide you step-by-step through wheel removal, safely using tire levers, finding the source of the puncture, and seating a new tube. You don’t need any prior mechanical experience to participate—beginners are completely welcome, and our youth mechanics are excited to share their expertise!

Mastering the Vernier Caliper: Precision Measurement for Cyclists
Sunday March 15th, 12:00 PM
Demo Area – Booth #333 (in the exhibit hall near the food court)
Presented by Stephen Bilenky, Bilenky Cycle Works
Bicycles are machines of incredibly tight tolerances, where a fraction of a millimeter is often the difference between a perfect fit and a ruined component. Whether you are upgrading your handlebars, replacing a mystery seatpost, or sourcing new cartridge bearings, “eyeballing” the size just doesn’t cut it. A Vernier caliper is the ultimate problem-solver for these occasions, but its sliding jaws and unmarked lines can look intimidating to the uninitiated.
This applied workshop demystifies this fundamental tool, showing you how to accurately measure inside and outside diameters and depths of common bicycle parts. We will break down exactly how to read both the main and Vernier scales with confidence, making sure you never order the wrong-sized part again. You don’t need to be a professional frame builder or a math whiz to participate. Home mechanics and beginners are highly encouraged!
A hands-on session measuring common bicycle components (seatposts, bearings, and bolts). Participate or observe. Please bring your own calipers if you have them. (We will have practice calipers available as well.)

Join the Pennsylvania Randonneurs for a welcoming populaire that rolls out from Philadelphia, follows quiet suburban roads to Evansburg State Park, and returns to the Expo. Randonneuring events are unsupported, self-paced, and non-competitive, with camaraderie very much at the heart of the rides. Expect to see a wide range of riders and bikes, from fast to classic randonneur style and everything in between.
Advanced registration and a RUSA membership are required (PA Randonneurs club membership is not required). Full details, registration, and requirements are available at PARando.org.

Vintage Bike Display
Saturday, March 14th 10:00AM – 5:00PM & Sunday, March 15th 10:00AM-4:00PM
The Philly Bike Expo will once again feature a collection of vintage lightweight bicycles provided by leading vintage bicycle collectors and dealers. The display is carefully curated by Michael Kone of Classic Bicycles Auburn to show off both ultra rare exotics as well as readily obtainable machines for the vintage-curious. The line-up will highlight high performance bicycles from the 1950’s thru 1980’s, with many featuring ornate hand craftsmanship and racing pedigree. Show attendees will readily see the connection between the hand crafted vintage machines and contemporary examples exhibited at the expo by current-day builders.
Mike Kone will be giving a talk about the bicycles being displayed at the booth on Saturday at 3:00PM and Sunday at 2:00PM.
