RedShift Sports ShockStop Suspension System

RedShift Sports ShockStop Suspension System

Product Review by PBE Squad member, Trong Nguyen

As an avid cyclist who regularly tackles everything from gravel paths to limited mountain bike trails, and even rough city potholes (Philly residents would know this), I have always struggled to find the right balance between comfort and control on rough terrain. That is, until I tried the RedShift Sports Suspension System. This innovative product has completely changed the game for me.

Build Quality and Design:

First impressions are everything, and right out of the box, the RedShift Sports Pro Stem and Pro Seatpost feels incredibly solid and well-made. Both the stem and seatpost are made from aluminum alloy, and the sleek design makes it clear that this isn’t just another “add-on” product. It is the solution for cyclists who are looking for any advantages in riding with more comfort. The suspension system is very easy to install, even for someone who is not a bike mechanic. With clear instructions and a simple tool setup, I had it installed and dialed in within about 30 minutes. It is compatible with a wide range of bikes, which makes it a versatile addition to any setup.

The ShockStop Pro Stem can be attached by handlebar clamp size of 31.8mm. It is compatible on both drop bar and flat bar bikes.

The ShockStop Pro Seatpost will fit any standard seat tube diameter of 27.2mm. RedShift Sports has shims available for additional non-standard seat tube sizes and two length options as well.

Adjustability:

One of the standout features of the RedShift Sports suspension is its adjustability. You can fine-tune the suspension to match your riding style, weight, and the type of terrain you’re tackling. This level of customization is a huge plus for cyclists who want to optimize their ride. Whether you prefer a firmer setup for faster road riding or a softer setup for tackling bumpy trails, the RedShift Sports suspension has you covered.

The Stem can be adjusted with five different elastomers. I have mine on a more firm setting with two stiffer elastomers.

The Seatpost can be adjusted using two different elastomers and a coil spring. I did not make any additional adjustments for my seatpost.

Performance:

The combination of front and rear suspension features gives you remarkable shock absorption on even the roughest of terrains. Both the stem and seatpost have up to 20mm travel. Whether I’m riding over roots, rocks, or potholes, the system absorbs impacts smoothly without compromising control or stability. The suspension works seamlessly to reduce fatigue, allowing for longer, more comfortable rides. I noticed a significant difference in the amount of vibration and jarring that typically left my hands and lower back sore after longer rides. Now, I can definitely stay in the saddle longer, focus on the ride itself, and enjoy the trail without worrying about discomfort.

Durability:

After two years of riding, the suspension system has held up perfectly. According to my Strava record, I have ridden over 3000 miles on the stem and the seatpost. Both products have been used on local gravel rides and long endurance gravel races such as unPAved. There has been no sign of wear or degradation, and everything still feels as responsive as the first day I installed it. I have not experienced any issues where I had to reach out to RedShift Sports for support.

Conclusion:

The biggest benefit, of course, is the improved ride quality. The added suspension transforms my bike into a more capable and enjoyable ride, even on rugged, uneven terrain. It provides a smoother, more controlled experience, which is especially noticeable when riding on gravel or rocky paths. I felt more confident navigating technical sections of trail and was able to maintain speed without losing my balance or grip. I would recommend the RedShift Sports suspension system for anyone looking to enhance their cycling experience on rough or varied terrain. It strikes the perfect balance between comfort and performance, making it an essential upgrade for any rider. Whether you’re into gravel/off road biking or just want to smooth out your daily commute, this product is a game-changer.
