As the New Year rolls on, now is a good time to get those bikes to Velojawn for some much needed TLC after a long season of riding. I recently stopped by Velojawn with some fellow PBE Squaddies and friends and experienced the newly revamped layout at their store in West Philly. Walking in we were immediately greeted by Mike Brown, owner of Velojawn, and given a warm welcome from the cold ride.
Velojawn has been a proud longtime supporter of the PBE Squad and is my go to place to get the PBE gravel loaner serviced and ready for the season. This bike made me fall in love with gravel riding and I love sharing it with folks who are curious about getting off the tarmac and experiencing car free off roading! Velojawn has been getting this bike ready for the next group of riders for the last 2 seasons!
Velojawn is not only a bike shop. Their mission is to “expand cycling through accessible employment opportunities, mentorship, and coaching.” They do this through their role supporting local organizations like the Bicycle Coalition Youth Cycling Program and the Philadelphia Bike Expo. During our visit, Mike graciously spent some time speaking with us and getting us pumped about the evolution of the showroom, service area, and most importantly upcoming renovations to the backyard outdoor space. One of their goals is to provide a welcoming space for gathering in the neighborhood. This past spring the PBE squad had our first official meet and greet in the store, and recently this fall had our kit reveal and tryout day from Varlo Apparel, our official kit sponsor for 2024.
