The market has largely moved past the classic 70’s road bike. Yet the right examples with lively steel frames, ample room for wider tires, and widely available replacement parts can provide astounding performance for the dollar. What to look for, with emphasis on geometry, frame tubing, and set-up will help guide riders to find affordable machines that provide amazing comfort on paths, gravel roads, and quieter paved roads. Best of all, many great vintage machines can be found at an affordable price! Specific brands and models will be discussed. But if you lust for a new custom bike, the tips on geometry and frame tubing will be equally valuable in guiding your journey with the custom builder of your choice.
